New York Road Runners and Armory Track to Welcome 2,500 Kids at NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services on Saturday, October 24

New York Road Runners and Armory Track will welcome approximately 2,500 students from New York City public schools throughout the five boroughs to the famed New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory for the NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services on Saturday, October 24, it was jointly announced by Michael Capiraso, president and CEO of New York Road Runners, and Dr. Norbert Sander, president of The Armory Track & Field Center.

“The NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services is NYRR’s largest youth running event of the school year, and the perfect way to kick off TCS New York City Marathon week,” said Capiraso. “We are pleased to partner with the Armory, and grateful for the support of Tata Consultancy Services, on this event and many other youth running events and programs throughout the year. Whether our young runners have run many miles, or are taking their first racing step, we wish all a special day filled with fun and inspiration.”

“I can't think of a better way to begin the TCS New York City Marathon week,’’ says Dr. Sander, who won the 1974 New York City Marathon and remains today as the only New York City native to ever win the world-famous 26.2-mile event.  “With approximately 2,500 kids participating, this occasion helps assure running will continue to be a major influence throughout our fabulous city. The TCS New York City Marathon provides an avenue for all runners of all abilities and all backgrounds a chance to be heroes for a day. They are indeed heroes to many of the kids entered in this year’s NYRR Jamboree.”

The NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services is a free event open to students from pre-K through high school. The event takes place on Saturday, October 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and will feature a variety of track & field events, including relays, runs, long jump, and shot put. The day will also feature two special 55-meter dashes—one for pre-K students, and the “Forever Young Invitational” for seniors aged 75+, which will include approximately 30 NYRR Striders in their 70s and 80s from the South Bronx and Upper Manhattan. The groups will each be on hand to cheer and present each other with finisher ribbons.

In addition to the NYRR Youth Jamboree Presented by Tata Consultancy Services, TCS supports a variety of NYRR youth running programs, events, and resources as NYRR’s Official Youth and Community Services Partner.

The Armory is the celebrated home to the 109^th NYRR Millrose Games in February, which NYRR is the title sponsor of since 2014. The prestigious, historic event is the ultimate embodiment of the NYRR and Armory partnership, featuring NYC's youth in the NYRR Fastest Kid on the Block race, and culminating with the world's best professional milers competing in the iconic NYRR Wanamaker Mile.

Through year-round programming on and off the track, the Armory enables kids and adults of all ages to lead healthy and active lifestyles, aligning with NYRR’s mission to “Run for Life.” NYRR has a long-standing partnership with the Armory Foundation and sponsors events year-round at the Armory in support of the 100,000 kids it serves annually.
